We’re celebrating the great work of our county government heroes, during National County Government Month!
Held each April since 1991, National County Government Month promotes the roles and responsibilities of county employees, and the programs and services they provide to their communities. Across North Carolina, many counties are hosting special events to connect with residents, including:
- Durham County, where youth are gaining hands-on knowledge of what county leaders do, and how they can pursue their own careers in government.
- Pitt County, which is showcasing its initiatives in transit, recreation and 911 communications, all programs that connect residents and county departments.
- And in Guilford County, events focused on public health, cooperative extension, and even pets are merging fun and education.
Partners in county innovation awards
Your credit unions are proud to serve county employees all 100 North Carolina counties, and to support our partner, the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners (NCACC). The NCACC represents counties on issues considered at the state and federal levels, and works to build state and county collaboration.
While April is National County Government Month, the extraordinary work of our counties takes place every day of the year,” says Kevin Leonard, executive director of the NCACC.
“Our 100 counties serve all North Carolina residents in an ever-changing world. The [NCACC] is honored to support the work of our counties, assisting where and how we can. We like to say, ‘We get to do this.’”
As part our partnership with the NCACC to support the work of county employees, the Civic Excellence in Innovation Awards are given annually, to recognize county programs that demonstrate solutions to residents’ needs, and resource savings for counties. The deadline to apply for this year’s awards is May 31.
Thank you to all the county employees who keep our communities safe, healthy, and thriving!
