People first. Planet always. Prosperity for all.
Our commitment to our local communities — and to our planet — runs deep. We are proud to be a CarbonNeutral® organization, as recognized by Climate Impact Partners, taking us one step closer to a healthier planet.
What is carbon neutrality?
As reported by the United States Environmental Protection Agency, human activities release roughly 35 billion tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere each year. That’s an almost 40% increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations since pre-industrial times.
These greenhouse gas emissions affect our planet’s climate, causing dangerous weather changes, worsening air quality, and rising sea levels, among other detrimental shifts.
Climate change is a global issue, but our local communities feel the impact, right here in NC. Achieving carbon neutrality means that our carbon emissions have been offset by the carbon we’ve reduced from the atmosphere through environmental protection efforts.
Our efforts
We aim to keep our carbon emissions low to begin with — digital banking and renewable energy sources like solar arrays help with this. And through our friends at Climate Impact Partners, we have funded renewable energy initiatives around the world to offset our carbon footprint.
These projects finance the rise of clean power supplies around the world, supporting the development of clean energy infrastructure and creating jobs and supporting local economies.
How you can reduce your carbon footprint
Mindful consumption can be a powerful tool in the fight against global warming. Opt to do business with companies and organizations that have made our planet their priority.
Shop for sustainably sourced foods, do not fall for fast fashion, and avoid products with excess plastic.
Transportation is one of the biggest culprits of greenhouse gas emissions. If your destination is close, try walking or biking, or consider public transit when it’s available for those longer journeys. Plus, you can always save a trip by using digital or online banking.
