If you are planning a long trip or going outside of the United States, be sure your Civic credit card is travel-ready! You can message us through the Civic app or call our Experience Center 24/7 at 844-772-4842. Let us know the credit card(s) you plan to use while traveling, along with basic details about your trip.
Before you go
- If you have not already, download the Civic app so you can monitor your account(s) on the go
- Test your card(s) at a store or ATM to make sure it’s in working order
- Keep a copy of your card (front and back) with you in a separate place from your cards, and leave another copy safely at home
Countries with limited card access
Remember to contact us when you plan to travel internationally so we exclude your card from certain fraud protection strategies that may impact your trip. Transactions in certain countries may also be limited by the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). In these instances, the credit union will not be able to remove card restrictions. For example, some countries may have restrictions on the type of currency they will accept, so it is best to ensure you have enough cash. You can exchange U.S. dollars into other currency at airports, hotels, or exchange houses.
While you’re away
- Stuff happens. Bring a backup way to pay, like cash or an extra credit card
- Keep your cards and your cash in separate locations
- Pickpocketing is still a common crime. Be aware of your surroundings while enjoying the sights
- Use a reputable company if you are using your credit or debit card to rent a car internationally
We want you to enjoy your travels, so plan your credit card safety ahead of your trip and you can expect smooth sailing — or driving or flying — while away from home.
