A range of cash solutions are planned for member transactions. 

• We're opening 11 branches in 2024, and you'll have the option to deposit and withdraw cash at these locations. 
• In addition, we’re excited to share that you will soon be able to enjoy cash solutions across multiple statewide networks for deposits and withdrawals.

 This includes:

• More than 2,400 North Carolina retail partners through the Visa® ReadyLink network, available to deposit cash directly to your account at places you know and trust  
• Use of 106 credit union branches across the state through the Co-op Shared and ATM networks
• Access to more than 300 MoneyPass® surcharge-free ATMs in North Carolina 
• Continued access to SECU’s CashPoints® ATMs network for withdrawal services

LGFCU members will continue to have access to SECU’s branch services until independence in June 2025. 
 

LGFCU will shift your accounts over to the Civic platform automatically when we separate account management operations from SECU in June 2025.

Our goal is to retain account numbers for checking, share savings and other deposit accounts, and we continue to work with vendors on this. We'll update you as the transition progresses.

We will move your scheduled transactions to our new platform in June 2025. We’re working to ensure there’s limited action needed on your part.

You will still have access to real people at our 11 branches across the state, and can contact our representatives at the Civic Experience Center. Plus, we have Engagement Officers in the field who are spread out across the state.

Our staff will be ready to answer your questions by phone, text or video chat, and email. The same people who created LGFCU remain committed to meeting your financial needs.

We will be able to issue cashier's checks in a few ways. 

• Visit one of Civic’s 11 branches to get a cashier’s check.
• Request one through our Experience Center and we will send it through certified mail. If needed, expedited delivery is available, but may be subject to an additional fee.  
   

We already have access to digital notary services you can use from the comfort of your own home. Contact Civic’s Experience Center to get documents notarized. 

Civic wires are conveniently submitted through your secured online banking login and will be available day one on the new platform in June 2025. If you would like more information on sending or receiving domestic wires, please contact the Civic Experience Center.

If you have a smartphone, you can use the Civic app right now to deposit checks, including paychecks. Our daily deposit limit using the app is up to $200,000. 

Absolutely, you can still write paper checks and pay bills with checks. And you can use your mobile phone to deposit checks in the Civic app too.

We do not anticipate having coin sorters in Civic branches, but we’re considering options that can best serve members across the state.

Part of the money you deposit through the Civic app is generally available shortly after your deposit. Several things affect when your money becomes available, like the policies of each party's financial institution, your account history, account type and the amount deposited. On occasion, part of your deposit may take a few business days to clear.

If you have a loan with a fixed rate, the loan’s terms will remain as they are.

If you have an adjustable-rate mortgage (ARM), your mortgage’s terms will remain in place until the scheduled adjustment, and then the rate may go up or down, based on market conditions. If you have a loan with a variable rate, that rate may also change based on market conditions.
 

Yes, existing LGFCU loans, rates and terms will be transferred over to the new platform in 2025.

Yes, you’ll able to transfer funds between external financial institutions without a fee. 

Large cash withdrawals and deposit options will be offered through three expansive partner networks: 

• Visa® ReadyLink, our retail partners network, with thousands of statewide locations 
• Co-Op Shared Branch credit unions, with more than 100 North Carolina locations 
• Use the MoneyPass® ATM network surcharge-free, for withdrawals at convenient retail locations in North Carolina. Some participating locations also offer deposit services. 
   

Civic’s 11 branches are scheduled to open in 2024, and members can visit our branches across the state to meet with staff in person. In addition, we’re also building a larger network of staff in the field to work directly with you on your needs.

Yes, we will! We're opening branches as Civic Credit Union throughout 2024. We will be in Ahoskie, Asheville, Charlotte, Durham, Greensboro, Greenville, Hickory, Lumberton, Murphy, Raleigh and Wilmington. These branches will give you the chance to experience Civic services firsthand and to meet our employees in person. The branch locations will be within 30 miles of 80% of LGFCU members. 

Yes. You can continue to use CashPoints® ATMs with no surcharge.

We will not be exclusively cloud-based. We will be primarily digital-first, using the robust technology platform of our partner credit union, Civic. 

We recognize some areas have poor broadband service. Right now, we’re working with broadband advocates and organizations across the state. We’re adding our voice to the efforts to bring better service to signal-challenged regions.

You are still a member of this credit union, as you have always been. Separation only ends the agreement for SECU to manage account operations, and discontinues in-branch services for LGFCU members.

LGFCU’s partner credit union, Civic, has an updated and robust banking system that will enable us to conduct and process daily transactions. We’ll serve members on our own, offering traditional financial solutions you’re used to, plus some others that members have requested. And you’ll be served by a team of employees who have helped build LGFCU and who have always worked on your behalf.
 

Your credit union membership with LGFCU does not make you eligible for membership with SECU.

LGFCU and SECU have always operated under separate charters that legally define the specific fields of membership each can serve, and the eligibility requirements for joining each credit union.

• SECU serves state employees, teachers and their families
• LGFCU serves North Carolina local government employees and volunteers and their families, among other groups
• You can check the SECU website to see if you qualify for membership
   

We'll have many of the same products you've come to expect, plus several new, member-requested products. Many of these products are available right now through Civic. The list includes traditional savings, certificates and money markets, checking accounts and debit cards, IRAs, health savings accounts (HSAs), youth and teen savings accounts, rewards and classic credit cards, mortgages, home equity lines of credit (HELOC), auto loans, personal loans, personal lines of credit, emergency loans and credit builder loans. There is a suite of financial products available for small business and nonprofits as well.

Insurance policies through the Credit Union will continue to be in effect after we separate from SECU.

Yes. We're creating a money manager that will initially have expense tracking, transaction categorization, and reporting available. We will announce the features soon after launch, which is projected to be after June 2025.

Yes, Health Savings Accounts will still be offered. We are in contact with our members’ Human Resources and Benefits staffs to keep them updated on how these will be moved over.

Yes, Civic offers savings accounts for kids and teens right now. Existing youth accounts at LGFCU will be shifted to the new platform for you

Yes, mortgages and HELOCs are available through Civic right now. If you have an existing loan with LGFCU, we’ll move it over to Civic’s platform.

Both LGFCU and Civic are committed to offering the best interest rates possible. That will continue with Civic even after separation. The ability for the credit union to offer competitive dividend rates is influenced by U.S. Treasury’s adjustment of interest rates. If the Fed increases rates, we can increase our rates. Our rates adjust up or down depending upon how the Treasury adjusts rates. Adjustments impact interest on loans and other investment products as well. Since we don’t know when adjustments will be made, members should take advantage of the great rates as quickly as possible.

Both Civic and LGFCU have a responsibility to protect our members' account information from unauthorized access or disclosure. Here are some ways we will continue to do this:

• We use multifactor authentication, which requires you to provide more than one form of information (something you have, something you know) to access your accounts. This helps to prevent unauthorized access, even if a password or username is stolen or compromised.
• We use firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and other security technologies to protect our network and systems from external threats.
• We conduct regular security assessments and audits to help identify potential vulnerabilities in our systems and processes, and they allow for timely remediation to minimize risks.
• Our staff regularly receives security awareness training to ensure they are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to safeguard your account information.
• Our incident response plans outline procedures for responding to security incidents and minimizing the impact on members.

All these measures work together to ensure our member account information is kept secure and confidential, and that Civic and LGFCU can detect and respond to security incidents promptly.
